G2 - Exploration

On Saturday 15th, the 7km strip was tracked. Students and professors move in rickshaw, cars, bikes, and walking to capture the feelings and state of the border.

First thing to realize was the inexistence of the road as it was planned. The limit is now diffuse and not continue. The track had to be modified from a straight line to a more wavy line. Along this line, the urban condition is under continue change. Hyperarctivite gives space to a calm areas, density gives space to low urbanized spots, formality gives space to improvised developments.

However, the green is almost a continue pattern. With different densities, shapes, heights and distances from the user perspective, the sometimes spontaneous and other times designed green unifies and sometimes mask the build-up environment.

  1. It was a great learning experience for both the students as well as teachers. Thanks Daniel for initiating this workshop. There were several activities which our students were totally unaware of before this activity. But after working on them along the 7km stretch of Chandigarh they were high in confidense. Chandigarh of Le-Corbusier has changedca lot in last 58 years. Now we see new developments coming up along its borders to meet the growing population who desire to be living in or near the dream city.
New hospitals, government offices, godowns, commercial areas, and informal activities have changed the border from what it used to be in past. Green areas have been reduced to accommodate new developments. Although these changes are very low as compared to other cities like Delhi but it's time to introspect.
