G1 - Exploration

The participants (I will not refer to them as “students” but as “participants” in order to underline the coral character of the project) show their preliminary data collection with photography.
The whole idea of the project is quite blur for all of us, our aim is to shape it in the process. It is a generative research. I was afraid it could be a turn off for the participants. They engaged in the work before I could have interaction with them, Prof. Pardip took care of the introduction.
  • The materials collected in this first stage are quite diverse, but they include some interesting findings. At a first sight, I could highlight some (possibly) useful ideas:
  • Simultaneity of planned and non planed areas in the same section.
  • Similarities in the structure, materials, aesthetic elements… in all the houses in planned sections.
  • Uses of public space: interestingly enough, in some cases the actual use is far from the foreseen one: cars parking in a playground, clothes hanging in a soccer goal, etc.
  • Diversity of circulation areas, ranging from wide streets to narrow passages between buildings.

I suggest the participants to play with the framing of the images. We can use long shot for general views of the area, full shot for an specific subject (buildings, people, activities) roughly filling the frame, medium shot and close up shot to capture details or particular aspects. If we have a diverse typology of shots in our collected materials, we will be able later to contrast long shots with details, create series of images gradually focusing in a subject, etc. We can also work creating strategies to underline similarities and contrasts.
That would enrich visually our final display of the research.
We are collecting interesting images,

Good job, guys!!

  1. This was a great experience literally. As the professor was directly from Spain specially for us. The session starts with a interaction including the digital display of work like installations, sculptures and conceptual works. Through that interaction we come to know about unique ideas and inspiration. Then nextly we go for a nature exploring walk with our academic and international professors. Their we come to know about different perspectives of views, how the thinking of a designer and an artist is quite different from society belongs to normal scenario. Along with exploring nature we also get through different art works of Chandigarh like great architecture, plannings and art works. On the next day we were on a DIY session which was sculpture making. The best part was exploring nature and searching beautiful elements of nature and to compose them to give a attractive concept. Consequently, it was a great time with Dr. Albert Macaya and with a short journey of great experience I would like to pay a golden thanks with great heart. Thank you
